The Delta and The Islands

The Tigre is the starting point to visit the Delta of the Paraná and the island localities which are located on the rivers: Sarmiento, San Antonio, Luján, Parana de las Palmas, Capitán and the Vinculación channel. All of them are good for nautical and aquatic sports and fishing of the "dorado", "the pejerrey" and the "surubí". There are a several lines of motorboats for public service with itineraries across these rivers that transport local villagers and tourists. In the islands, the houses are built on piles, which raise the constructions and stand out between the leafy vegetation. There is a great variety of trees like ceibos, cañas, pines, poplars, laurel, willow, wickers, eucalyptuses, diverse fruit-trees, ferns and lilies of the field, together with magnificent "camalotes" that weave entangled floating islands; also flowers like azaleas and hydrangeas, among others. Among the local fauna there are amphibious mammals like the Carpincho, the otter and aquatic birds like coots or white herons.

For those who wish to stay overnight in the islands, there are several hotels, pubs, restaurants and country houses. Other alternatives for tourists are cultural,  thematic and adventure ecotourism, with walks around different crafts in rivers and creeks of the area as well as hikes to historical and traditional sites  and jungle areas for photographic safaris. It is highly recommended to spend the late afternoon at an inn and to view the sunrise on the islands.

Río Paraná de Las Palmas
This river, located at one hour and a half trip by motorboat from the Riverside Station of the Tigre, owes their name to the quantity of palms that are found in the area. We recommend a visit to "
El Tropezón ", a country house built in 1928 with local style architecture. Argentine writer Leopoldo Lugones, well known for having received the National Prize of Literature in 1926, took his life at this place and is remembered by a granite monolith and a museum.

Sarmiento River
It is one of the most sailed rivers in the Delta, and from it you will be able to see attractive houses and sports clubs, located on the shores of the islands. One recommended  place to visit, is the " Lyfe Park ", which has a special area to camp, and where next to the vegetation there are some sand beaches. The "Sarmiento Museum", built by the president Domingo Faustino Sarmiento in 1855 as a summer house, hold personal memorabilia and furniture used by the illustrious Argentinean.
